A man is under arrest in connection to an armed robbery reported on New Year's Day in Saipan.

Delyn James Cabrera, 19, is charged with robbery.

CNMI Department of Public Safety officers responded to a robbery reported Wednesday at 7:10 pm near the Beach Garden Hotel located along Chichirica Avenue in Garapan.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a woman called for taxi services at the hotel before Cabrera got into the car.

Authorities said as the taxi driver proceeded south, Cabrera allegedly grabbed the driver by the neck and demanded money while pointing a knife at him.

He fled with an undetermined amount of money.

The victim suffered cuts on both hands, and a blood coming out of his nose.

Investigators gathered surveillance footage leading them to Cabrera's home located within close proximity of the hotel.

He is being held at the Department of Corrections on a $20,000 cash bail, awaiting initial court appearance.
