With newly-elected mayors and vice mayors officially sworn-in over the weekend, many are wasting no time diving into the work ahead for their villages. In Yona, Mayor Brian Terlaje is setting the tone for his term by focusing on transparency, safety, and a fresh start for the village.

Bright and early Monday morning, the Yona Mayor’s Office was a hub of activity. Partnering with the Guam Customs and Quarantine's K-9 Unit and Park Police, Mayor Terlaje led a proactive sweep of all public facilities used by the community.

The mission? To ensure these spaces are safe and drug-free.

"I wanted the people of Yona to know I mean well and I want to start off on a new slate, because of previous issues we've had in the past, with other administrations," his honor said. Terlaje stating he wanted Yona residents to know that he is transparent and honest and wants to ensure their safety.

With a team of K-9 handlers, Park Police officers, and their highly-trained dogs, the sweep covered several key locations: the Yona Senior Citizens Center, the Peter Mark Recreational Center, the Yona Community Center, the village gym, equipment storage areas, and even surrounding vehicles.

The result? A clean report across the board.

"I want the people to know that we will continue to rise and showing the people what I want to do and what I mean to do for the betterment and the greatness of our community," the mayor said.

His approach signals a commitment to transparency, safety, and unity—values he hopes will define his administration and inspire confidence among Yona residents.
