Four familiar faces remain on the board at the Guam Visitors Bureau. These board of directors were re-elected yesterday and will continue their work to revive the lagging tourism industry.

With no other candidates nominated, four directors remain in their seats. GVB held their 2025 membership elections Tuesday at the Rihga Royal Laguna Guam Resort. Chairman George Chiu, vice chair Joaquin Cook, secretary Jeffrey Jones and director Ken Yanagisawa were re-elected by GVB members and will serve on the board for another two-year term.

The board is made up of four member-elected directors, five appointed by the governor, one from the Mayors Council of Guam, two legislative appointees and one board-elected director.

Chiu tells KUAM he’s “Honored to have been re-elected by the membership. This shows that they have faith in the four incumbents to work with the other appointed board members to help Guam get back on its feet with respect to tourism.”

GVB acting president and CEO Gerry Perez said, “The staff and management of GVB and I congratulate Chairman Chiu and directors Cook, Jones and Yanagisawa on their re-election to our board.”  Perez adds he looks forward to continuing their work with them “on the road to recovery and the improvement of Guam’s tourism industry.”

This comes nearly a month since industry partners called for “immediate and aggressive action” on GVB’s two-year, $60 million Tourism Recovery Plan. GVB is also still searching for a new president and CEO to lead the recovery efforts after former governor Carl Gutierrez stepped-down last November. GVB continues to receive applications until January 15 for the president and CEO position.

In the meantime, GVB public information officer Lisa Bordallo says the bureau expects to receive the names of the new legislative appointees and governor’s appointee from the Mayors Council once committees have been established within their organizations over the next few weeks.
