Fire damage could exceed over $56-billion
President Joe Biden said today additional fire crews and aircraft are coming in from Canada.
This as fire crews continue to fight the stubborn fire, currently at zero percent containment in various parts of Los Angeles.
On Thursday, KUAM spoke with Owner and Chef Carmen Naputi Davis, of Island Smoke n’ Grill.
“Where we're at we're safe. We're literally in the middle of everything. I see three smoke fires out there. The Santa Monica fire is thicker than the one in the Santa Clarita area,” said Davis.
Today, however, is a different story.
Davis and family received an emergency alert from the LA Fire Department that an evacuation warning was issued for the woodland hills area. Frantic, they were able to pack a go bag and head to safety.
Multimillion dollar mansions along the scenic Pacific Coast Palisades Highway are now just piles of ashes. The LA Fire Department estimates the Palisades fire wiped out more than 5,300 structures.
The Eaton fire also spared nothing: schools, businesses, and hundreds of homes completely destroyed.
Accuweather, a private company that provides data on weather and its impact, estimates the overall damage could reach $57 billion.
This as fire officials are bracing for another round of dangerous winds Thursday evening into Friday.
