A woman is in stable condition in the hospital after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Harmon Monday night.

KUAM News was interviewing some of the homeless staying along Route 16 in Harmon.

We saw a cousin of a resident we were interviewing off-camera standing at the median, waving over friend to help bring boxes across a busy Route 16.

The woman was hit by a car heading in the direction of the mall.

She was not at the crosswalk.

Janice, the female we were interviewing  and others rush over to help out.

Immediately, we dial 911.

Then, trying to get as much details about the car involved and the woman's condition.

The car involved turned around and parked in the center lane until police showed up.

We stay on the phone with 911 dispatchers.

A bystander and a Guam Police officer are the first to pull over to help out before more first responders arrive to the scene.

Medics with the Guam Fire Department put her into the ambulance and take her to Guam Regional Medical City.

We caught up with GFD spokesperson Lt. Nick Garrido at the scene.

"All we got was at 17:33 pm, GFD units responded here to Route 16 in front of GU Self Storage for a reported auto-pedestrian incident involving a female. Based on the injuries sustained, we are keeping it as an alarm with serious injuries," he said.

It's the second auto-pedestrian crash recorded on Guam within the first two weeks of the new year. On New Year's Day, a man died after being hit by a car along Route 1 in Dededo.

It's a risk and the reality bill says people in situations like him face each day while living out on the streets.

Janice commented, "They judge people like us when we have nothing. But when they are out there asking for help we are there to help them...because it's the right thing to do." Asked what safety measures does she want the government to give you," another resident, Bill, said, "The safety measure is get the (expletive) debating about how we are going to help the community. Stick to your word."

An emotional time for the victims friends at the scene.

Meantime, the woman hit by the car was last listed in stable condition at the Guam Regional Medical City.

The driver involved was speaking with police on scene.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
