Guam’s Emergency Rental Assistance program to close Cycle 6 as funds run out
As Guam's Emergency Rental Assistance program nears the end of its funds, important deadlines have been announced for both tenants and landlords.
The ERA program will stop accepting new applications for direct rental and utility assistance beginning Jan. 21, 2025, citing a depletion of funds allocated for COVID-19-related relief.
However, eligible tenants may still submit continuance applications until March 31, 2025.
The program aims to process all remaining cases and obligations by April 30, in line with guidelines from the U.S. Department of Treasury.
Since its inception, the ERA program has provided over $43 million in rental and utility assistance to those affected by the pandemic.
Landlords are urged to support tenants still facing economic challenges as the program winds down.
To further support tenants during this transition, the Office of Homelessness Assistance and Poverty Prevention offers a range of services, including:
- Referrals to the Department of Labor for employment assistance
- Guidance on eligibility for SNAP and Medicaid benefits
- Referrals to shelter programs through the Guam Homeless Coalition
- Assistance with GHURA public housing applications
