Measure provides provide emergency contraception to rape survivors

Senator Will Parkinson introducing a measure that would provide just that if passed and signed into law.
Bill 24 would authorize any emergency health care facility to provide emergency care to a sexual assault victim, mandating that such facilities shall provide medically and factually accurate objective oral and written information about emergency contraception and sexually transmitted diseases.
Parkinson stating, “Guam has some of the highest sexual assault rates in the country, and emergency contraception taken within 120 hours can prevent pregnancy. Emergency contraception prevents pregnancy. It does not induce an abortion. ”
The senator noting via press release that the emergency contraceptive pills, also known as the morning-after pill, can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex, including rape.
