South Korean officials detain impeached President Yoon on second attempt
South Korean authorities successfully detained President Yoon Suk Yeol on Wednesday over his botched declaration of martial law.
The arrest comes weeks after a first attempt ended in a dramatic standoff at the residence where he had been holed up since he was impeached last month.
Yoon is South Korea's first President to be arrested in office.
Investigators confirmed the arrest warrant had been executed Wednesday morning, hours after hundreds of police officers arrived at Yoon's presidential compound in Seoul.
This was the second attempt to arrest the impeached President, following a failed attempt earlier this month.
Yoon faces possible charges of insurrection, one of the few crimes for which South Korean Presidents do not have immunity.
