New education oversight chair to host monthly town halls at campuses
Transforming education on Guam.
Education oversight chair Senator Vince Borja recently met with Guam Department of Education superintendent Dr. Erik Swanson.
The freshman lawmaker emphasized the importance of collaboration and a student-centered approach as he outlined his objectives for the committee over the next two years.
Borja stating, “Parents, teachers, counselors, and the GDOE management and board must work together as partners to ensure our students succeed. For far too long, education has been a political sound bite with no action. The time to place blame and fight is over. Just like I learned in the Army, we need to get behind a vision and, as one unit, execute a mission.”
Borja plans to hold monthly town hall meetings at every GDOE campus aiming to bring stakeholders together to identify challenges and share solutions.
