Gardeners and farmers interested in growing seedless watermelons are invited to a special field day hosted by the University of Guam’s agricultural experiment station in Inalåhan.

The event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9 to 11 a.m., and will feature a variety trial of four seedless watermelon types.

Participants will learn which varieties offer the best yield and resistance to pests and diseases in Guam's climate.

Dr. Robert F. Bevacqua, extension horticulturalist, will discuss techniques for producing seedless watermelon, the role of honeybees in pollination, and how seedless watermelon seeds are created.

Attendees will take home sample seed packets to try out these seedless varieties themselves.

Seedless watermelon is an ideal crop for Guam, thriving in the island’s warm, humid climate and offering higher market value.
