Guam Fire Department swears in its latest Fire Chief
On Wednesday morning in Adelup, in front of family, friends, and fellow brothers and sisters from the Guam Fire Department, Daren Burrier was sworn in as Fire Chief.
During the ceremony, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero spoke of his impressive resume, wealth of knowledge and experience in the medical emergency services.
“Which is very key to saving the lives of our people. and coming from the ICU, CCU nursing background, the importance of having that critical care out there in the field,” said Leon Guerrero.
After being pinned, Burrier took to the podium, recalling all that GFD has achieved and will continue to achieve.
“So going forward as we've gone through the years and have gone through the development of our rescue team to what it is today, we're also coming from just EMTS on ambulances in transporting people to hospitals to where now we treat people on the field. What the emergency room would normally do we do out there in the field. And now we also have drone units, we have a robust fire prevention program, we have fire operations for suppression of fires. And a hazmat team. So we've come a long way in forty years. We have developed into a professionally recognized nationally accredited fire department,” said Burrier.
He said he looks forward to the journey.
We'll have more with Burrier on the challenges the agency faces and how plans to address them tomorrow on Primetime.
