Following a Bloomberg article, The US’s Worst Fears of Chinese Hacking Are on Display in Guam, which included an interview with Melvyn Kwek of the Guam Power Authority, GPA issuing frequently asked questions about its cybersecurity efforts in response to our request for comment on the matter.
On whether the power authority has the resources to address cyberthreats, GPA stated, “GPA’s cybersecurity team consists of highly skilled, certified professionals who adapt to evolving threats. Investments in critical infrastructure, such as GPA’s independent fiber-optic networks, enhance reliability and reduce vulnerabilities.”
GPA highlighted that its proactive cybersecurity program has been in place since 2015, long before recent high-profile threats. GPA says this demonstrates years of strategic planning and a commitment to protecting Guam’s energy systems.
