Guam Department of Education opens 2026 Teacher of the Year nominations

The Guam Department of Education is now seeking nominations for the 2026 Guam Teacher of the Year. 

This prestigious award honors exceptional educators who demonstrate dedication, expertise, and leadership in the classroom and community.

Eligible nominees must be full-time certified teachers who have worked in GDOE schools for at least five years and exemplify excellence in teaching and community engagement.

Superintendent Erik Swanson said, “We are on the lookout for exceptional teachers who inspire and motivate their students and peers. If you know a teacher who embodies excellence in teaching, please nominate them for this prestigious honor. Anyone can nominate a teacher—whether you are a student, a parent, a community partner, a school leader, or a fellow teacher. Fill out this form and let us know why your nominee deserves this recognition!”

The National Teacher of the Year candidate has the respect and admiration of their colleagues and:

  1. Must be a full-time, certified classroom teacher who actively teaches in the classroom, working for the Guam Department of Education for 5 years or more.
  2. Is an expert in their field who guides students of all backgrounds and abilities to achieve excellence.
  3. Collaborates with colleagues, students, and families to create a school culture of respect and success.
  4. Deliberately connects the classroom and key stakeholders to foster a strong community.
  5. Demonstrates leadership and innovation inside and outside the classroom, embodying life-long learning.
  6. Expresses themselves engagingly and articulately.
  7. Is of good standing in the Department and the community.
