A team from George Washington High School has been selected as one of 60 winners in NASA’s TechRise student challenge.

This STEM competition, open to 6th through 12th graders, challenges students to design and test innovative solutions for space exploration and earth observation.

The winning team will receive $1,500 to build their experiment, along with technical support and a NASA-sponsored flight test on a high-altitude balloon.

The students will spend the remainder of the school year developing their design with the help of professional engineers.

More than 700 proposals were submitted, with 530 students representing 50 states and territories selected as winners.
