The Guam Homeless Coalition will be conducting the annual Point-In-Time Count this Friday.

The count starts at 4 a.m.

Officials said the initiative aims to document and survey Guam’s sheltered and unsheltered houseless population.

The data collected will play a key role in shaping policies and directing resources to address and ultimately end homelessness on the island.

KUAM caught up with Guam Homeless Coalition Chair Aja Ramos and Vice Chair Rob San Agustin.

“This is just to get a snapshot of what homelessness is on Guam and fluctuates throughout the year, the number that we come up with in the final report is not what we see monthly. But it is a good snapshot to see how many people are experiencing homelessness for one night on Guam,” said San Agustin.

“It also gives us some important data to understand the phenomenon of homelessness on Guam, what are some contributing factors, and more importantly for each individual who is living in homelessness to connect them to a resource, that we can bring some hope to their day, provide them some food commodities and get them connected to critical services that can help them in their journey to stable housing,” said Ramos.

On Friday, residents may notice groups of volunteers stationed across the island between 4 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Volunteers will be easily identifiable, wearing GHC name badges, and traveling in vehicles marked with GHC signage.

These teams will conduct surveys and distribute care packages containing nonperishable food, essential hygiene products, and information about available assistance programs.
