Guam Homeless Coalition conducts Point in Time homeless count
Two hundred volunteers joined the Guam Homeless Coalition for the Point in Time count today.
Officials gathered in Barrigada early Friday morning before heading out to locations across the island.
Coalition Chair Aja Ramos said this critical initiative aims to document and survey Guam's sheltered and unsheltered houseless population. The data collected will play a key role in shaping policies and directing resources to address and ultimately end homelessness on the island.
The teams asked people questions about their living situation and checked if they are seeking permanent housing.
“We have many teams throughout our island surveying and canvassing to engage with our homeless community and get some data, pass out food commodities, so that we have good information on what is happening on the ground for people who are homeless,” said Ramos.
The teams distributed care packages containing nonperishable food, essential hygiene products, and information about available assistance programs.
KUAM will have more from the homeless count on the next episode of The Hub: Where America's stories begin.
The Hub airs Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. following Primetime.
