Delegate to pursue needed advocacy to minimize impacts from Trump tariffs
Guam Delegate James Moylan responded to the President's pause on increasing tariffs.
Moylan said his office is continuing to engage with various parties to get more specifics on the full impact for Guam entities who rely on imports from either Mexico, Canada, or both if these tariff increases were indeed to be resurrected and made more permanent.
The Congressman added, “This would specifically be with the cost of goods, where Guam already faces several alternative challenges. While we recognize the intent of the tariffs, which is to request the two neighboring countries support the United States' efforts in strengthening border policies, particularly when it comes to illicit drugs entering the country, we also want to heed caution.”
Moylan concluded that if the issue does indeed resurface, his office will pursue the needed advocacy to minimize any adverse impact on the territory.
