Guam infrastructure improvement funding up for a vote in the U.S. House
$100 million could be allocated for the Guam Defense Access Road Project from the FY 2025 National Defense Authorization Act to fund the Defense Access Road III project.
The measure, signed into law by former President Biden, will initiate construction on roads and bridges and improve infrastructure across the island.
In addition to road repairs, the project will focus on underground power lines, telecommunications, water, sewer, and storm water lines.
The total project costs $241.8 million, with additional funding expected in future years.
However, the appropriation for this and other military construction projects outlined in FY 2025 NDAA should be up for discussion and a vote in the House of Representatives later this month.
The project aims to improve road safety, harden the electrical grid, and provide reliable infrastructure to support Guam's growing needs. The military construction plan also ensures local funding remains focused on village roads and other community priorities.
Guam Delegate James Moylan wrote a letter to Guam’s Department of Public Works Director Vince Arriola to discuss the issue.
