Presiding Judge calls for collaboration to strengthen substance abuse treatment
Guam’s Presiding Judge, Alberto C. Lamorena III, is calling for stronger community support to combat drug and alcohol abuse through the island’s treatment courts.
Judge Lamorena addressed the Mayors’ Council of Guam, urging village leaders to collaborate with the Judiciary to expand access to rehabilitation and recovery services.
The Judiciary currently oversees several treatment courts, including Adult and Juvenile Drug Courts, Mental Health Court, and the Veterans Treatment Court.
Since 2002, over 1,100 participants have graduated from these programs, including 76 last year alone.
Judge Lamorena emphasized the role of mayors as first responders in their communities, helping connect residents to critical support systems. a future meeting between the Judiciary, Mayors, and treatment providers will focus on expanding these efforts.
