Generative artificial intelligence videos, commonly known as deepfakes, are being used to scam people.

The Marianas is no exception to this scam as authorities are urging the community to stay alert.

Homeland Security and Civil Defense Offices confirm they received multiple reports of deepfake videos featuring recognizable individuals claiming you’ve won a sweepstakes or attempting to collect personal or financial information.

So, here’s what you need to know to stay protected:

Check for irregularities: Watch for unnatural facial movements, distortions, or delays between words and lip movements.

Keep information private: never share personal or financial details with someone you've only interacted with online or by phone.

Listen closely: Be wary of unusual tones or word choices that don’t seem normal for the person speaking.

Remember, AI scams can use text, images, audio, and video.
