Drugs intercepted at post office during Guam Customs, DEPCOR K9 training
Drugs were found at a Guam Post Office Wednesday during a training involving local law enforcement.
It was training with Guam Customs and Quarantine K9 officers and Department of Corrections K9 officers.
Here's a look at the video capturing the handlers and the canines in training.
DEPCOR Director Fred Bordallo was unable to confirm at which post office facility officers found the drugs but he calls it a victory for all law enforcement involved in getting real world experience of stopping drugs from getting onto our streets.
“The post office is known as a port of entry, the area where the mail comes in…It’s a big win when the Guam Customs assisted by agencies seize a substantial amount of drugs trying to come into our island there,” said Bordallo.
“I’d just like to say thank you to Guam Customs and congratulations on their seizure as I heard it was a very successful interception of illegal drugs that are a threat and harm to the people of Guam,” added Bordallo.
Guam Customs declined comment only told KUAM the matter is under review.
Meantime, Postal Inspector Brian Shaughnessy told KUAM they do not comment publicly on drug seizures.
He added the U.S. Postal Inspection Service is the law enforcement arm of the U.S. postal service, and Guam postal inspectors regularly partner with Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency and other law enforcement agencies to conduct criminal investigations, including those involving the trafficking of illegal narcotics through the U.S. mail.
