An officer at the Department of Corrections was inspecting the buffer zone inside the Mangilao compound just after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The area is Post 16 which houses the general population.

That's where they spotted contraband apparently tossed over the fence.

“The contraband that was found in – there’s tobacco even suspected meth, probably crystal meth but with their police investigation they are the ones who have to do the analysis on the drug to confirm that,” said DEPCOR Director Fred Bordallo.

He was unable to confirm how much suspected meth was found.

“In that population in Post 16 you have individuals in there who are lifers and some of them serving way over 20 years so it’s the inmates who have been incarcerated for a long time,” added Bordallo.

Guam police have been called in to investigate and have since confiscated the drugs as evidence.

Bordallo also hopes the public can assist to track down the person responsible.

“I just commend my officers because it’s a win for us when we intercept this so it’s not in the hands of the inmates inside the facility and anytime who individuals who throw in contraband and take off, this investigation will always be reported to police and they will take it seriously to determine who is responsible. We hope that people will be prosecuted and we hope the AG is working with GPD to find these individuals and we will always assist them when they need it or come across a name of somebody that might be connected to this,” added Bordallo.

For now, no potential suspects have been identified.
