We've got a follow-up for you now on one of our own, which in this case is a proud island girl, KUAM Kid forever, Guam High graduate, US Naval Academy cheerleader, and soon-to-be graduate Jewel Maigue chose her command assignment today at a ceremony in Annapolis.

When her turn came and her name was called among her classmates, the midshipman first class selected the USS Frank E. Petersen, Jr. out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The Ship Selection Ceremony is an annual tradition where "mids" heading into the fleet as active duty officers participate in, getting to pick their first ship on which they're be surface warfare officers.

She's of course the daughter of former reporter Valerie Maigue and Senior Chief Petty Officer Jeff Maigue, and we've known her since she was little. Congrats, Jewel and thanks for your service!
