A new bill proposed by Senator William Parkinson aims to end delays in government audits and improve budget transparency.

Under the legislation, agencies would be required to submit financial audits within 120 days of the fiscal year's close.

Directors who fail to meet the deadline, without an approved extension from the Office of Public Accountability, would have their salary and benefits suspended until they comply.

Sen. Parkinson says the measure ensures lawmakers have the data they need to make informed budget decisions, adding, This ensures that government leaders do their jobs. No audits, no pay– the people of Guam deserve transparency and fiscal responsibility from their public servants.”

“You wouldn’t let someone keep spending your money without showing you the receipts. That’s what this bill is about—making sure we see the receipts before decisions are made,” Parkinson said.
