The Musical Theatre Competitions of America Guam National Team made a stunning impact at a national competition, bringing home multiple awards and even taking center stage alongside broadway stars.

The Guam Department of Education congratulates the MTCA Guam National Team for their outstanding performance at the nation’s largest educational musical theatre festival.

Tiyan student Lana Noble took first place as a female soloist in the 8th grade category, while she and Tess Santos placed second for their duet performance.

Three team members, Galvin Escalona, Mikaela Harrington, and Lana Noble, were also selected from over 3,000 competitors to perform in the grand finale showcase alongside broadway stars.

Meghan Andrews, Original Mary in Broadway’s The Secret Garden, remarked, “Pure storytelling! Simple intentions that were effective. Great work!”

Zane Gerson, National Broadway Tours, Daniel Huff Agency, added, “For your age to have that much connection is commendable. That last handhold, I was like, I'm not gonna cry.”

Reflection from Guam MTCA Finalist: Angelee Pontillas shared, “It was an incredible experience—the best I have ever had. MTCA has given me so much courage and motivation, helping me create and build my goals as I pursue my greatest passion: musical theatre. I hold these moments close to my heart because they have given me a clear path to my future and the steps I can take to reach it. I wouldn’t have had this opportunity without Mr. Ernest Ochoco, Ms. Rayah Julian, and all the judges who supported us throughout our journey to the competition.”

GDOE Superintendent Dr. Erik Swanson applauded the students for their dedication to the arts, encouraging them to continue pursuing their passions and representing Guam on the national stage.
