At the 2025 Interagency Group on Insular Affairs plenary session, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero delivered a strong message, urging federal leaders to invest in the island’s healthcare and housing infrastructure.

Speaking before federal officials, Governor Leon Guerrero highlighted Guam’s critical healthcare needs, stressing that the island’s only public hospital is unprepared for mass casualty events. She called for federal support to build a modern medical campus that can serve both civilian and military communities.

The governor also addressed Guam’s worsening housing crisis, pointing to disparities between military housing allowances and local affordability. She urged federal action, including expanding low-income housing tax credits, to help stabilize the island’s housing market.

U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum reaffirmed the strategic importance of U.S. territories, especially in the Indo-Pacific, as the U.S. faces growing global security challenges.

And the White House is listening - former Trump administration official Alex Meyer announced an expanded role for IGIA, ensuring territorial concerns receive direct attention from Washington.

Governor Leon Guerrero says she will continue working with federal leaders to push for these investments, calling them critical to Guam’s future.
