Pope Francis is spending another night in Rome’s Gemelli Hospital as he continues to battle double pneumonia. While The Vatican reports a slight improvement, the 88-year-old pontiff remains in critical condition as catholics worldwide pray for his recovery, placing their faith in God’s hands.

Healing prayers for the leader of the Roman Catholic Church are pouring in from around the world, including from the faithful here on island.

Churchgoer Annie Unpingco told KUAM News, “I’m very concerned, and I feel bad for him. I am praying for him regularly for healing, if that’s God’s will.”

Pope Francis has spent 11 days in the hospital, battling pneumonia in both lungs. But in an update Monday night, The Vatican confirming that while his condition remains critical, there has been a slight improvement - a hopeful shift from just two days ago.

The Vatican also reported that the pope has had no new episodes of respiratory distress, noting that his “mild kidney insufficiency is not a cause for concern". Anna said, “The Lord takes, and He gives away. So, whatever he’s going through, he’ll be okay.”

“I think he has so many challenges that I will leave it up to God.”

Despite his illness, the Pope is still carrying out his dutiesm, getting back to work and making a call to a Catholic pastor at a parish in Gaza.

Meanwhile, thousands have gathered in Saint Peter’s Square, lifting their prayers for his recovery.

The Archdiocese of Agana released a statement, saying, "The Church on Guam and worldwide continues to closely follow Vatican reports on the health of Pope Francis and asks for continued prayers for the Holy Father. We're grateful for official word from the Vatican that the Pope has experienced a slight improvement in his medical condition."
