Guam Muslims prepare for Ramadan

Our island culture is rich with diversity, and one tradition that gets underway this weekend is the Muslim practice of Ramadan. Sunday marks the beginning of the month-long time that followers of Islam engage in fasting from sunrise to sunset, along with reflection, community, and prayer.
Imam Khalid Khan, who leads the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Guam, said, "Our month of Ramadan is a very spiritual and uplifting month for the Muslims all over the world. We try and worship a lot more and read our Holy Scripture a lot more. In the Holy Qur'an, Gold Almighty says that 'You who believe that fasting was prescribed for you, as it was prescribed before you, so that you may be mindful of God.'"
He added, "Fasting is something that we do so that we can become righteous. And so that we can become pure."
Finally, he shared happily, "Ramadan Mubarak for everyone around the world - in Guam and around the world, as well."
