The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown follows Cathy and Jamie, a young couple navigating love and heartbreak over their five year relationship.

Cathy tells the story in reverse, from the breakup back to their first date, while Jamie moves forward in time, from falling in love to falling apart.

Cathy, played by Shelby Weilbacher, is a dreamer with self-doubt.

While Jamie, played by Stephen John Ramirez, is charismatic and ambitious.

“There’s no bad guy. We’re just playing two people that are trying their best in the relationship. They might be failing at it, but that’s what they think is best,” said Weilbacher.

“Anybody can relate to both of them. Yes, you’re going to pick sides, let’s be real,” added Ramirez.

Understudies Paradis Jolie and Don Anthony said sharing the roles gives them fresh perspective.

“I use her expertise to expand on what I do,” said Jolie.

“These are both very human characters, but they’re not perfect and they’re beautiful just as they are,” added Anthony.

Director Miren Sofia Jordana said the show's unique structure makes it stand out.

“Even though it’s an unconventional structure, it's easy enough for audiences to follow,” said Jordana. “When you watch these people, you can relate to each character and each number.”

This is the final weekend to catch the show at the UOG Fine Arts building. Shows run Feb. 28 through March 2, and tickets are available at www.3blindmicegu.com.
