The deportation deal for a man convicted of sexually molesting a 12-year-old girl hits a snag.

33-year-old Dwayne Cruz De Guzman appeared before Judge John Terlaje in Superior Court Thursday.

He told the court he wants to renounce his U.S. citizenship to allow him to be deported to the Philippines instead of serving jail time.

De Guzman’s mother testified that they expect a lengthy process to be able to get that done.

Parties noting Immigration and Customs Enforcement would need to be involved for the plea deal to move forward.

De Guzman currently remains out of prison awaiting sentencing as he faces 90 years for his conviction.

Judge Terlaje telling him to stay out of trouble.

De Guzman is scheduled to appear back in court on May 22nd.

As reported, a jury convicted him of two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, including special allegations of vulnerable victim.

De Guzman told police that he “has a hard time finding women his age and thinks it is easier to find younger girls because they can be easily persuaded with money and gifts.”
