A big opportunity is on the horizon for one of Guam’s most beloved bands, The John Dank Show! The group has made it to the voting rounds of the California Roots Music Festival’s “Wild Card” contest. They’re calling on all of us to help make that dream a reality.

It’s a moment years in the making for the band—a chance to take their island-born sound to one of the most prestigious reggae festivals in the world, California Roots. But to get there, they need your votes. Lead singer Frankie McJohn says it all started when he was scrolling the social media pages of festivals and came across Cali Roots and a contest they were holding.

"It's called the Wildcard contest, and basically it's an application process where bands can send in their press kit," he explained. After, the band was thrown in with a bunch of other artists and out of over 100 applicants, the john dank show was one of about 40 who reached the voting rounds.

The band has one week to get the votes needed to be one of six who will take the stage at the Cali Roots Reggae Festival. "It's been a dream of ours, literally a dream of ours, I actually told my girlfriend - I don't want to go to Cali Roots unless I'm playing. My goal has always to play it when I go there. It's right in front of us, we just need to be rallied behind," said McJohn.

And this is an opportunity the band is truly deserving of. The John Dank Show is one of Guam's notable bands, just celebrated 10 years. "We're celebrating this year the 10th anniversary of our first album. It's been a long road," added the singer. "It's come a long way, we've played a lot of festivals."

And the Cali Roots festival is one they want to add under their belt.  and we can make that happen. Voting is simple - just go to this link, find The John Dank Show, and hit ‘vote.’ you can cast your vote once per day per email, so consistency is key!

"If you know us, and you know us on the scene, we've tried to give back as much as we could, from the get go.it was never any expectations of our fans or anybody to give more what they can in terms of being a fan, friend, and family. This is the one time like we're - hey, you know maybe you can help us out to get us to play at a festival that's been our dream," said McJohn.

The voting period runs from February 28 at 10am Pacific Time until March 7 at 11:59pm. Let's do this, Guam! McJohn said, "If there one thing Guam has always done, especially in the past with Jason J, with so many other acts, is that we show up for our people."

"This is the biggest stage for us, and it's right there, but we just need everyone to rally behind us. We will do it with humility and that we're representing something bigger."
