National Dislocated Worker program helps nearly four hundred people find jobs

Following Typhoon Mawar in 2023, the Guam Department of Labor took action to support displaced workers by securing an $8 million National Dislocated Worker Grant.
Over the past two years, this federally funded initiative provided hundreds of individuals with temporary employment and training to regain stability and contribute to the island’s recovery efforts.
Now, as the program nears completion, it is set to conclude on May 1, 2025, with the final day of employment for participants on April 30, 2025.
“NDWG was a very successful operation that contributed to significant recovery efforts for our island. I want to thank every participant of this program. I’ve heard many success stories come out of NDWG and I am pleased that many people have found lasting careers because of this program,” said David Dell’Isola, Director of GDOL. “This is what we strive for at the Department of Labor—assisting our people get into jobs or training that will turn into meaningful careers.”
Participants worked with the Mayors’ Council of Guam and all 19 village Mayors’ offices, Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense, and the Department of Public Works.
Of the nearly 400 participants who have enrolled in NDWG, about half were able to complete the program or find unsubsidized employment.
GDOL continues to operate a Dislocated Worker Program that is separate from NDWG.
