The University of Guam celebrated its 57th Charter Day on Thursday, bringing together students, faculty, and the community for a celebration of education.

Marking the anniversary of UOG officially becoming a university in 1968, the event highlights UOG’s cultural roots and its role in shaping future generations.

This year’s theme, ‘From Island Wisdom to Global Impact,’ is a reflection of how the University of Guam blends tradition with innovation, and today, we see that impact in action.

Thousands filled the UOG campus for Charter Day, the university’s biggest annual event where education meets culture.

Students said it’s more than just a celebration, it’s a chance to connect.

“With all the different schools coming together, it gives that feeling of unity and diversity,’ Aiden, a Communication student, said.

“It’s an opportunity to see what the university has available and all the different cultural communities that make it up,” added Business student Emily.

And local leaders believe uog’s impact extends beyond the classroom, uniting the island and the region.

“For me, the best of UOG is definitely the young students who are going to school and trying to get their education so that they can give back to our island and our community,” said Senator Chris Barnett.

“And how we can continue to move forward as one Marianas because that’s really what it is here. One Marianas and one Micronesia,” said Yona Mayor, BJ Terlaje.

And keeping the Mes CHamoru spirit at the center, local vendors and artisans are also taking part, sharing their spirit of inafa'maolek and support for our children’s education.

“Man, honestly, just to celebrate! This is the 57th Charter Day and we just wanted to showcase our pieces because it’s Mes Chamoru as well,” said Jason Paulino with Kuttura Crafts & Creations. “With any culture, jewelry lives to tell the stories from way back when.”

“So what we’re doing is perpetuating our culture. Everybody that wears this or brings it off-island shares a piece of our home,” added Paulino.

From performances to hands-on exhibits, UOG’s 57th Charter Day is a showcase of the island’s past, present, and future.

As the next generation of leaders emerge from UOG, it’s clear that Guam's culture and impact will be reaching far beyond our shores.
