A level-one sex offender convicted on new charges for repeatedly molesting a young girl known to him will spend life in the Department of Corrections prison.

Defendant Luke Taitano was sentenced before Judge John Terlaje in Superior Court Monday.

Last November, a jury a convicted of attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

“This ruling ensures that Taitano will never again walk free to destroy another child’s innocence,” said Attorney General Doug Moylan. “We commend Judge Terlaje for handing down a tough sentence to create deterrence to other would be pedophiles.”

As reported, Taitano sexually abused the child multiple times starting when she was only nine-years-old.

According to the Sex Offender Registry, Taitano was convicted of similar charges in 2013. The victim in that case was an eight-year-old girl.

“His crimes prove the truth we already know: pedophiles do not stop,” said Moylan. “They will offend again and again if given the chance. That is why today’s sentence matters. No leniency. No second chances.”
