What pressing concerns and triumphs will Governor Lou Leon Guerrero address during her seventh state of the island address?

Her speech comes at a time of uncertainty, from sweeping federal policies to a milestone half a decade in recovery from a global crisis and much more.

Lawmakers on both sides of the party have been among her biggest critics and advocates the past year.

With concerning directives from the White House to criticism from the People’s House. How will the Governor outline Guam's path forward during a time of uncertainty?

Senators sound off on what they hope the Maga’haga will address tonight.

Sen. Therese Terlaje, the former Speaker, wants to hear about the Governor’s back up plan to deal with federal funding cuts.

“I think what we all want to hear is what are the plans if these Trump cuts come into fruition and we are impacted, especially on those critical, critical services for Guam such as medicaid, medicare or social security,” said Sen. Terlaje.

The financial concern includes capital improvement for the Guam Memorial Hospital.

“Because the [American Rescue Plan] money was removed from the hospital and they have been really trying to build a Maternal Child Health Ward and NICU, or neonatal ICU, what are the plans to build that now,” said Sen. Terlaje.

This as the Governor is facing legal troubles with the Attorney General over pandemic funds for her Mangilao hospital.

And while it’s Leon Guerrero's seventh State of the Island address, it will be her first one before a republican majority.

“There’s still a lot of uncertainty with regard to what she stated she was going to be doing and the things that are happening right now….I’m still waiting to see what she wants to do because things haven’t changed,” said Speaker Frank Blas Jr.

Top of mind for Spkr. Blas Jr. is economic recovery.

Today marks the five year anniversary since the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic.

“Obviously our tourism industry is still down. Military buildup is still strong, but it's not going to last long. So what are we doing in place of economic recovery and rejuvenation,” said Spkr. Blas Jr.

For Health Committee Chair Sen. Sabrina Salas Matanane, she said, “Her plans for the economy, affordable housing, addressing the high cost of living, homelessness and more importantly, healthcare.”

Sen. Tina Muna Barnes also expects to hear updates on the Governor’s plans for the new hospital and she added, “More importantly, our kids need a house up at Simon Sanchez– what the status of that is going to be. And what other programs has she brought from her meetings in DC.”

Meantime, the Governor has not been shy about pushing forward with her goals, so we can expect a bold State of the Island Address.
