After receiving numerous inquiries from veterans regarding difficulties accessing military bases on Guam, Congressman James Moylan’s office has released clear guidance from Joint Region Marianas. The guidance details the necessary credentials for accessing the bases, additional clarification on eligibility for sponsoring individuals onto the bases and the available services at each installation.

The Navy and Marine Corps allow sponsorship for all veteran health identification (VHIC) holders, regardless of disability rating. However, the Air Force only allows sponsorship for veterans who are one hundred percent disabled.

This policy may prevent some veterans who are immobile and need sponsorship from accessing the base. Moylan is currently working to clarify this issue and will provide updates as they become available.

It is recommended that veterans print the guidelines and keep them handy in case they encounter any issues at the base gates.
