Defense Secretary embarking on Indo-Pacific tour to include Guam

Multiple South Korean media outlets report that U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will embark on an Indo-Pacific tour, including visits to Guam, Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines.
Guam's delegates welcomed Hegseth's arrival.
Notably, South Korea is absent from his itinerary, a decision attributed to the current political uncertainty following President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment over his martial law attempt in December.
Pentagon Press Secretary John Ullyot reaffirmed America's "ironclad" commitment to the U.S.-South Korea alliance, emphasizing ongoing joint military exercises and recent naval operations as evidence of continued strong ties.
Here in Guam, Secretary Hegseth's visit underscores the island's strategic significance in U.S. defense policy.
During his confirmation hearings, he referred to Guam as "pretty strategically significant".
Congressman James Moylan commended this recognition, stating that having a Secretary of Defense who prioritizes the safety and well-being of Pacific constituents is refreshing.
Moylan's Office told KUAM, "The travel details of high-ranking administration officials are confidential for security purposes. However, we are excited to extend a warm welcome as they journey to Guam as part of their Indo-Pacific trip."
