Do you think Guam and the CNMI should merge to pursue statehood?

Former CNMI governor Juan Babauta reportedly made that suggestion recently.

It's already received pushback in the Northern Marianas.

Senator William Parkinson, who introduced a resolution seeking for Guam to become a state, says Guam and the CNMI are stronger when we work together.

He notes, "CNMI has a different political status and historical trajectory than G

uam. I respect that, and any major decision like this must be driven by the will of the people, not political agendas."

Parkinson adding, "The fight for statehood is about ensuring that we have full rights, full representation, and full control over our future. If a Guam-CNMI partnership makes that more achievable, it’s worth discussing, but only if it’s what the people want. Mergers, partnerships, or federations are not simple matters. These discussions require trust, careful planning, and above all: public input."
