The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) is pleased to announce the semifinalists for the 2026 Guam Teacher of the Year (GTOY) Program, recognizing outstanding educators who exemplify excellence in teaching and dedication to their students.

Each semifinalist has made a remarkable impact in the classroom, displaying innovative teaching methods and fostering a supportive environment for all students.

The 2026 GTOY semifinalists are:

  • Julieta Anitok, Simon Sanchez High School
  • Acie Jo Sablan Cruz, Simon Sanchez High School
  • Janice Evangelista, D.L. Perez Elementary School
  • Welma Gentural, Ed.D., Agana Heights Elementary School
  • Elaine Macalinao, Tiyan High School
  • Valerie Ann Mendiola, D.L. Perez Elementary School

The selection process for the semifinalists began with nominations from peers, students, parents, or community members, who highlighted the unique attributes and contributions each educator brings to the school community.

Following the nomination phase, candidates submitted a GTOY application, which was evaluated based on a scoring criterion that selected the semifinalists.

The semifinalists will now advance to the next stage of the selection process, which involves interviews with a committee of educators, made-up of GTOY representatives. The interviews will be scheduled on March 26, 2025.

The three (3) finalists will be announced during the GTOY Press Conference led by the Foundation of Public Education, scheduled on April 3, 2025, 10am at Cars Plus Guam.
