A connection to Guam's people and culture led him to make our island his home, but a calling for public service led Bob Klitzkie to work as an educator, lawyer, policymaker, talkshow host, and U.S. Marine for more than six decades. The former two-term senator died Tuesday evening peacefully at the age of 86 with his wife and daughter by his side.

Born in Wisconsin, he came to Guam after graduating from college to be a teacher. He was elected to the 27th and 28th Guam Legislatures, and among many achievements over his remarkable lifetime was the renaming of Guam's main highway from "Marine Drive" to "Marine Corps Drive" and being a strong advocate for a part-time legislature.

He spent the last few years as a radio commentator at The Point, drawing on his previous similar work on our airwaves at KUAM.

The Republican Party of Guam expressed their condolences at the loss of their longtime colleague, and we likewise send our sympathies to Bob's family.
