Guam Education Board approves merger of LBJ and Tamuning Elementary Schools

It was a decision the Guam Education Board chose to table for a vote until now.
The GEB unanimously approved the merger of the school communities of Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary and Tamuning Elementary School Tuesday evening.
“All those in favor of merging LBJ elementary school with Tamunig elementary school, all in favor say I. Opposed.. Motion carried,” said GEB Chair, Angel Sablan.
The merger is set to take effect for the 2025-2026 school year, with GEB members expecting a smooth transition.
“The principals agreed to it, the village and the mayor agreed to it, and now the whole world agrees to it,” said Sablan.
Meanwhile, the board also accepted the Tamuning Municipal Planning Council’s resolution to convert Chief Brodie Elementary School into a central middle school as the home of the Busy Bees prepares to close its doors by year’s end.
The council initiated the push for this move back in 2019.
“Any action after that would be up to this board to decide how to move forward,” said Sablan.
Board member Peter Alexcis Ada stressed that the accepted resolution still needs to go to the GDOE’s task force for review.
Meanwhile, the board is also discussing options for ending double sessions for Simon Sanchez and John F. Kennedy, as well as Okkodo High School and F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School.
Sablan said that by April 30, the GEB is expected to make a final decision on how to move forward.
