Treasure trove of careers on display at the Home of the Pirates

It’s all hands on deck at the Home of the Pirates.
A treasure trove of careers on display at Agueda Johnston Middle School on Thursday.
At one side of the Ordot campus, a drone sailed through a few feet away, a vast fleet on display, all inspiring students.
One student said, “I want to work in the Army to get a lot of money.”
“I want to be a teacher at FD because my sister works there and she makes it sound really cool,” another student added.
“I want to be a family medicine doctor because I really want to get into the medical field,” a student said.
Special agent Jeff Knight is with the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
His exhibit emphasized the importance of living a drug-free life.
“This is to show the kids a little bit about the situations we get into, what we deal with, what the drugs kind of look like to tell them to try to stay away from them and kind of educate them that way,” said Knight.
Inside the school gym, a project with the Highway Patrol and Department of Public Works.
Students learned the dangers of driving while impaired.
Sgt. Ronell Rivera is with the Guam Police Department Highway Patrol Division and he said, “We’re doing an impaired driving demonstration. It’s pretty much to show the difficulty of driving a vehicle while impaired.”
Rivera and his team showed students what it takes to be an officer.
“And inspire them to hopefully join the ranks of Guam’s finest,” added Rivera.
The students were certainly inspired.
8th graders Dimas Atienza and Koby Camacho gave us a little more about the event.
“I get to see all these amazing jobs that I’ve never known before,” said Atienza.
“I really love it here. It's really fun,” added Camacho.
Atienza dreams of being an Actor, Musician or Engineer when he grows up while Camacho hopes to serve on the force.
