A relative for the man who was hit by a car Saturday is in contact with Guam police but investigators are not yet releasing the victim's identity.

It happened midday Saturday along Route 1 Marine Corps Drive at the area known as Dead Man's Curve.

Police say the driver of a silver Sedan veered off the road, sideswiped the guardrail before hitting the victim who was standing on the shoulder.

The driver then took off from the scene.

Medics attempted to perform CPR but stopped due to his critical state.

For now, police only identified the victim as being in his late 30's to 40's.

On Sunday, investigators arrested 78-year-old Alberto Bonite.

He is charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

Bonite told police he was on his way to church when he recalled hitting an unknown object before deciding to turn back home.

He was released on bond and ordered not to get behind the wheel of a car.
