Violence in Yigo triggers islandwide crime spree

In the days leading up to the brothers' capture, police had already issued wanted fliers for them after they allegedly kidnapped a man in Yigo and shot him.
That man was rushed to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
A violent series of events began in Yigo with a kidnapping and shooting of a local resident. This set off a chain reaction of further violent events and episodes across the island.
KUAM spoke with Yigo’s mayor to learn more about how this has impacted the community.
“You know, it’s sad when things like this happen, especially when it hits home. We just have to be mindful that we can’t just go out there and do things on our own,” said Yigo Mayor Frances Lizama.
The violent ordeal began here last Thursday afternoon.
The suspects, who are siblings, allegedly forced a man from his residence into a silver Sedan.
The suspects attacked him before shooting him in the torso, leaving him for dead.
The victim was later taken to the Guam Regional Medical City.
His condition remains unknown at this time.
Mayor Lizama said her residents were quick to lean on one another.
“We do have a chat group. People are posting on there, just trying to find out what’s going on, and hoping to give the support of ‘you see something, say something,’” said Lizama.
She cautions residents against taking matters into their own hands, urging them to call GPD immediately.
“Get every detail as far as place, time, vehicle, license plate, all the information that is necessary,” added Lizama.
With two suspects in custody and one still at large, the Yigo community remains vigilant. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in restoring peace to the village.
