With the stage set for one of the region’s most anticipated gatherings on climate action, the University of Guam hosted a press conference today to launch the 16th annual Conference on Island Sustainability.

Organizers previewed a week of powerful discussions, including a keynote from Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine and about 90 presenters from all over.

Co-chair and co-host for the conference was Governor Lou Leon Guerrero who expressed her excitement.

“Sixteen years is a great advancement in what we are doing. When we talk about solutions, how we drive abstract ideas , academic ideas, research ideas, into solutions - we have to think of what that method should be. And one of the ways we do that is through our G3 program,” said Leon Guerrero.

Also speaking on this year's theme 'Solutions for our Future' was Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio and chairperson of the Community Advisory Board Maria Eugenia Leon Guerrero.

“There are a whole bunch of innovations that are occurring and some of the best are happening on small islands. this is a baseline for us on how we can empower ourselves , learn from others, and really chart a course for not just reviving but thriving,” said Lt. Gov. Tenorio.

“I think we can all agree that collaboration between government, private sector, and non-profit organizations and academia is essential to create impactful solutions to our sustainability challenges,” said Maria Leon Guerrero.

The conference kicks off Wednesday at 4 p.m. with a community night. The entire island is invited down to celebrate. It all starts at 4 pm Wednesday at the Hyatt Regency Guam! Admission is free and you can win great prizes.
