GEB chair mum on charges for GDOE superintendent

Questions continue to surround the charges the Guam Education Board approved for Guam Department of Education superintendent Dr. Kenneth Swanson, as the board has yet to disclose what the charges entail or their implications. GEB chair Angel Sablan stayed tight-lipped on the matter, telling KUAM it is a personal issue.
As previously reported, the board held an emergency session last week, though discussions about the charges were conducted behind closed doors. The board is scheduled to meet again on April 15.
Sablan said, “We will be having a meeting April 15 and we will go into executive session and after that session, we will go into a public meeting and that’s when the board members can discuss whatever actions they want to take with regards to Superintendent Swanson and that’s when the public will be able to know.”
In the meantime, education oversight chair Senator Vince Borja has called for an oversight hearing with GDOE on April 16 to discuss federal policy changes and its impact on Guam's public education system.
