Friday’s meeting between education officials, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and US secretary of education Linda McMahon was positive, according to deputy superintendent Dr. Barbara Adamos, who shares that McMahon is now awaiting Guam DOE’s documentation for appeal.
The meeting follows McMahon’s notification to state education chiefs—including GDOE superintendent Dr. Kenneth Swanson—that the deadline to spend COVID-19 funds has expired.
As KUAM reported, this decision jeopardizes GDOE’s multimillion-dollar School Refurbishment Project, funded by American Rescue Plan monies spanning 12 schools, despite GDOE’s previously approved liquidation plan.
