Opening statements begin Monday morning for a father accused in the death of his one-year-old baby boy.

Defendant Paul John Cruz's trial is being held before Judge Vernon Perez in the Superior Court of Guam.

It was in October 2023 that authorities found the child lifeless in a Dededo home.

An autopsy concluded the child died as a result of blunt force injuries to the head, consistent with battered baby syndrome, with the manner being homicide.

The baby's mom, Giltinan Ramangmou, is serving a three-year sentence after a jury found her guilty of negligent homicide.
