Matson donates $10k to Humanities Guahan to support 2025 programs

Humanities Gua°han received a $10,000 donation from Matson that will directly support Humanities Gua°han’s 2025 programs, which aim to create meaningful spaces for learning, reflection, and dialogue across the island.
This support comes at a critical time for Humanities Gua°han, as the organization faces the unexpected loss of all federal NEH funding following recent national budget cuts.
Despite this challenge, Humanities Gua°han remains committed to sustaining its mission through local partnerships and community investment.
Matson’s contribution is part of a broader initiative to recognize organizations contributing to thoughtful engagement and positive change within their communities.
Humanities Gua°han was selected based on employee nominations, recognizing our ongoing role in delivering impactful public programming grounded in Guam’s unique stories, experiences, and cultural knowledge.
“Matson believes in the power of the arts to serve and improve communities. Humanities Guahan does an incredible job of supporting resident artists and introducing international works for our residents to enjoy. Congratulations to Humanities Guahan on its exciting 2025 program,” said Patrick Bulaon, Matson Vice President and General Manager for Guam and Micronesia.
As part of its mission, Matson has been reviewing its community investment strategy to better align with efforts encouraging awareness, understanding, and shared learning.
This includes renewed commitments to supporting organizations that provide access to educational and cultural opportunities rooted in local contexts.
This generous donation helps Humanities Gua°han continue moving forward with Matson’s mission during a time of great uncertainty.
While federal funding has been suspended, Matson remains deeply committed to supporting the people of Gua°han through humanities-based programs that foster community dialogue, inspire critical thinking, celebrate culture, and enrich the quality of life for island residents.
