Lt. Governor announces funding for Gardening and Bumblebees Project at Agana Heights Elementary School

Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio has awarded Agana Heights Elementary School the 2025 National Lieutenant Governors Association STEM Scholarship Program.
NLGA will award the school $1,000 as part of a national call for applications for funding STEM programming and curriculum in schools.
“Guam is an island with incredible biodiversity and a range of ecosystems due to Guam’s diverse terrain and tropical marine climate. I am happy that this STEM funding will aid in helping young students understand and develop an appreciation for Guam’s natural beauty,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio.
Agana Heights Elementary School will use NLGA’s funding to help students tackle a STEM-related gardening project focusing on sustainable agriculture, environmental science, and plant biology.
Through the project and curriculum, students in kindergarten through 5th grade will learn more on the science of soil health, the role of pollinators, concepts in hydroponics, and climate change’s impact on plant growth.
“As the seconds-in-command in state and territorial government, lieutenant governors are uniquely poised to lead on STEM education,” said NLGA Executive Director Kellie Rittershausen. “By supporting STEM-related activities in schools across the country, we can encourage a long-term interest and passion in STEM education in America’s youth.”
